The Garage Studio
Commercial
Architecture studio at Kolhapur.
Conceived within a dilapidated garage and servant’s quarter, The Garage Studio transforms a modest rented space into an experimental architecture studio, part workspace, part retreat, and part everyday living environment. Designed as a flexible, multifunctional space for working, drawing, model-making, presenting, gathering, dining, and pause, the studio embraces adaptability over permanence.
Responding to Kolhapur’s temperate climate, the design blurs boundaries between inside and outside through a sequence of semi-open and enclosed spaces, courtyards, skylight, and garden connections. Reclaimed materials, repurposed architectural fragments from old wadas, handmade banana-fibre blinds, and reused furniture lend the studio warmth, memory, and character.
Anchored by a lily pond, shaded dining corner, and evolving landscape of rescued temple trees, the studio becomes more than a workplace, it is a living, breathing environment where architecture, nature, work, and everyday life seamlessly coexist.
