The relocation of our practice from 13th Lane Studio to a site a few lanes away became an inquiry into continuity, how to evolve a workspace while retaining the ethos of a place deeply embedded in our way of working.
Inserted atop an existing load-bearing stone structure, the studio emerged through a negotiation between memory, ecology, and adaptation. Mature moringa trees informed the decision to build on the terrace, allowing the workspaces to engage directly with the tree canopy and an existing ecosystem of birds, bees, and seasonal rhythms.
Conceived as a lightweight intervention, the studio is organized around an open-to-sky courtyard, with sloping roofs, layered thresholds, skylights, and reclaimed architectural elements shaping a restrained yet dynamic spatial experience. Framed views, filtered light, and informal intersections foster both focus and collaboration.
The move upward liberated the ground plane, giving rise to Moringa Court: an informal cultural space for exhibitions, performances, discussions, screenings, and community gatherings beneath the existing tree canopy.
10th Lane Studio continues our exploration of building lightly: embracing adaptive reuse, ecological coexistence, and spaces that remain open to evolving forms of inhabitation.
